Dzogchen Winter Retreat 2011

The six bardos
From our Western perspective, life is generally restricted as a simple trajectory from birth to death, via old age. Tibetan Buddhism has a rather different viewpoint with the notion of bardos, intermediate states, which are indeed periods of time or connected states of consciousness forming a continum in which we have always existed.

The bardos of life, meditation, dream, death, ultimate reality and becoming are different moments of a process which repeats itself without end: death being one of these states as any other.

At the same time, bardos provide great hope as they are opportunities for liberation if we have received the necessary instructions from a qualified master and if we understand them well. In fact, if we have familarised ourself with the suitable practices, we can, at any of these times, recognise and realise the nature of our mind. During this retreat, Patrul Rinpoche will explain the nature of the bardos and how we can transform these intermediate states as moments of practice in order to reach enlightenment.
